Up Like a Rocket Song

This song is used to help teach bow control. The children balance a hula hoop crisp on the end of their bow and move the bow along to the song

Up like a rocket
Down like the rain
Back and forwards like an express train
In and out like an inner city train
Land on a planet
Fly round the sun
Pop it in your mouth with your big strong thumb!

O Come Little Children (or the Up-Down Song)

This song, devised by Sharron Beamer, reminds the children of the correct bowing. The words up and down coincide with the bow moving up or down.

Up down then down up is the right way to go.
Up down once a-gain then we make the bow slow.
Up down is quite hard but I think I can do.
Up bows every time in the right place like you...

Long, Long Ago - by Thomas Haynes Bayly in 1833

This tune from book one was the most popular song in America in 1843. For more information and further verses see this site.

Tell me the tales that to me were so dear,
Long, long ago, long, long ago,
Sing me the songs I delighted to hear,
Long, long ago, long ago,
Now you are come all my grief is removed,
Let me forget that so long you have roved.
Let me believe that you love as you loved,
Long, long ago, long ago.

Allegro

Tap or wave the relevant body part along to the music!

Heads, heads, ears, ears,
Fingers on your shoulders,
Tums, tums, knees, knees,
Fingers on your toes

(repeat)

Raise one arm and then the other,
Raise them both and turn around (alternatively ... wave hello)

Heads, heads, ears, ears,
Fingers on your shoulders,
Tums, tums, knees, knees,
Fingers on your toes
